There they are, purring under a blanket. But not for long! Three sprightly cats named Tiny, Moonpie, and Andre are eager to involve you in their games, whether it's tossing a ball of yarn (oof!), lifting flaps to find them in boxes (comfy), or getting caught in a pillow fight (biff!). As their antics get wilder still, they'll need a kind soul to blow on the page to dry them off! With an irresistible story that directly engages the reader, this book's clever design and bright, gestural illustrations make for cat-tastic lift-the-flap fun. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Good But . . .Mar 11, 2010 First of all the most important thing to mention about this book is that my 17 month-old daughter loves it. From the very first time we opened it she started giggling, laughing, petting, and kissing the cats in the book. When she wants story time she brings us this book first. That alone to me is worth far more than 5 stars.
The problem, however, is from the adult perspective. Some of the pages aren't really pages at all. They are connected to the book with a very thin line of paper making it far too easy for any overtly-excited child to rip out with no trouble at all. This isn't true for all the pages, but a good number of them. If you're kid is prone to turning the pages on its own and get excited about the book (or if it has a history of ripping out pages, like mine does) then this book won't last very long.
The second problem (though I didn't deduct stars for it because I don't believe it's fair to criticize a product for features that were never meant to be included) is that the book often asks the child to pet the cat, or to admire how fluffy the cat is. Now my daughter has another book with furry animals in it that is a "touch and feel" book where the animals have "fur." When the book calls for her to feel the furry puppy she loves running her fingers through the fur. When this book does the same she starts petting the cat but it's just paper so she gets disappointed.
Like I said, infinite stars for making my daughter so happy so fast, but realistically I'd like it to last more than a couple of days or weeks. Her other favorite books have lasted her 9 months already and are still going strong. I'll be amazed if this makes it through the week intact.
Finally, something about the contents of the book. It's very interactive ("look at the wet kitty, can you blow on her to get her dry" the child blows on the cat and then "aw, thank you, see how fluffy and dry I am now?). There's plenty of "boxes" the cats are hiding in with flaps for the child to open and discover on her own and it's all in all very good for involving the kid in the book instead of just having a parent read while she looks at the pretty pictures.
If you don't mind having it destroyed in no time I'd say definitely buy this . . . it will be worth it just to see the smile on your child's face.
puts a smile on a child's faceNov 23, 2009 My son adores this book and I have given it to two of his cousins. He is 3 and he has the story memorized and loves to make the different voices for the different cats and really enjoys the interaction, like blowing on the page to "dry" the cats.
It's a simple, fun book that just delights young children. They seem to really enjoy pretending the suspension of disbelief that says the cats are real and living in the book.
InteractiveNov 22, 2009 It's such a unique and fun book because you are interacting with the cats in the book. They ask you to do things and express "feelings" about what you did. Different from any other book I've read.
A Peek-A-Boo must getSep 13, 2009 This book is a must get if you and your child love to play peek-a-boo games. Not only is this book a fun read; it also allows interaction for your child. The cleverly concealed flaps in this book will ensure that your child read it more than once.
A fun and witty cat bookSep 12, 2009 I bought this book for my 9 year old daughter. It is a fun pop up book. She is kind of old for the book but it is done so well that she enjoyed looking at the different ways the cats hid and moved. If you know someone who loves cats you will want to get this book.
