A Must-Read book for anyone who cares about catsOct 20, 2009 Beat Friends Sanctuary is known, through the National Geographic TV show "Dogtown", for their rescue and care of dogs considered by most shelters to be "hopeless." Among other dogs, they took in many of Michael Vick's fighting dogs and rehabilitated them to become loving pets.
So I was very happy to see this book about Best Friend's rescues and care of cats. "Kittyville" is a section of the sanctuary devoted to our feline friends. Maybe some day, there will be "Kittyville" TV shows.
Especially striking was the description of "The Great Kitty Rescue," where 600 cats were rescued from a hoarder (who supposedly was working for a cat rescue organization). One of my own adopted cats was rescued by a local animal control agency from a hoarder. Animal hoarders seem to believe that they are "taking care of" and "loving" their animals -- even though they force their animals to live in torture chambers where they are crowded into cages, wracked with diseases and rarely if even given any sort of human love. Most cats rescued from hoarders have to be euthanized because of poor health and lack of socialization. My own cat was one of the fortunate ones; though he suffered from a terrible case of fleas, he was reasonably healthy. Though he was terribly frightened, he had now blossomed into a wonderful, loving kitty.
The cats rescued in The Great Kitty Rescue were scared, neglected, diseased; many were unsocialized. The devoted staff at Best Friends took over their care and rehabilitated most of them. There are individual accounts of rescued cats who may very well have been put to sleep as "hopeless" in most shelters. However, the Best Friends people never gave up on them.
This book is coffee-table size, with many photographs as well as descriptions. Highly recommended.

Touching and BeautifulJul 07, 2009
I came across the worderful gem of a book at the library recently. It was just wonderful.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah is home to some two thousand abused and abandoned animals: cats, dogs, birds, horses rabbits and more. The take animals from other shelters and rescue groups, and even have a rapid response team in place that conducts rescues after natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina.
Featured in this beautifully illustrated book are spotlight cats on nearly everypage, and a story about them as well. Cat lovers will melt when they see these beautiful furballs, and many who read this book will surely shed a tear or two in the process.
The caring never stops at Kittyville, where even cats with special needs are give a new opportunity at life. Even the unadoptable: the sick, the older or those cats that have suffered trauma will enjoy a good life, for the rest of their life at this wonderful sanctuary.
If you love cats, and love reading about happy endings for all of God's creatures, then check out this book. I really loved it, and hope you will too.

Neat StoryNov 30, 2008 I purchased this book for some cat lovers I know and they really enjoyed it, I also gave it a once over before I gave it to them and enjoyed as well. It is a nice inexpensive book with a neat story and nice pictures, great for coffee table reading. Another recommendation for dog lovers is the Dogville book with a similar rescue story.
